If you have seen any old movies, especially British movies, you will see them being used in many bar scenes to dilute whiskeys and other drinks.

These old style siphons are gaining in popularity and are rising on the bestseller charts in many areas, and it is not hard to see why. Siphons have a certain elegant and handsome look that makes them great to have in the home. Traditional siphons were made of glass, but the recent versions on the market tend to be made of stainless steel or aluminum. It looks great on the kitchen counter, and it is far more elegant than a Sodastream Soda Maker, adding a good level of “fizz” to any drink, making them very useful to have as well as making for a great conversation piece.

The brushed aluminum retro look is very handsome and great to look at; you can imagine this product fitting in well at just about any home or commercial bar. The build quality of the iSi is exceptional, with the unit being especially well constructed when compared to rival models. You create the carbonated water by using small CO2 cartridges that are dispersed into the water in the siphon; the soda siphon is then shaken for half a minute, and then placed into the fridge. The CO2 cartridges can be bought from iSi, and they are very cheap, but you can get them even cheaper if you shop around. Note that you don’t have to use the iSi branded cartridges exclusively with this product, as other cartridges work great too, so any other 8 gram CO2 cartridges will work just fine, so you are not tied into iSi. If your local shop stocks these cartridges you are all set.

How to Make Perfect Seltzer Water with the iSi Soda Siphon

If there is one downside to the iSi it is the poor instructions that come packaged with it. In order to make great fizzy water you will need to go through the following steps, which are not explained properly in the manual:

First of all, store the Siphon in the fridge before using, and make sure you use cold water with the product. Cold water brings out the best fizziness it seems. Next, store the Siphon in the fridge for an hour before using it. This will ensure that you get the most bang for your buck, and the resulting seltzer water is of excellent quality.

If you are looking for a soda siphon that looks great, will wow guests, and is inexpensive to run, the iSi does the job nicely. While the old movies had siphons that looked great, it is doubtful that they performed as well as this model :)
