Waring Blender MBB518 Review – A Quality Blender at a Quality Price
By marcopolo79
Just about everyone has heard of Waring blenders. The Waring company began in the 1930’a when Frederick Osius went to musician Fred Waring to strike a deal to manufacture and release a new kind of electrical appliance – the blender.

Waring had the money that would be needed to push and market the product, and the item went on to become a roaring success.Today, Waring as a company make a vast range of kitchen appliances, although they are still best known for making some of the best and highest quality blenders available to both home and commercial users; the Waring Blender MBB518 is one of the best selling models in their range, while being in the same price bracket as the Oster BPST02-B.
The Waring MBB518 – How Does It Perform
When you buy a blender there is usually only one consideration – how well does the blender blend? Most cheap and nasty blenders fail to cut through large or awkwardly shaped objects, and leave the resulting liquid with enough chunks that it is hard to call the result “smooth”. The MBB518 however works really well no matter what is thrown into it: fruit, veg, and ice cubes are blended easily with this model. One way that you can tell a cheaper blender is by how well it cuts though ice – large chunks pose a potential problem. With the Waring blendor you won’t have to worry about breaking any blades or doing any damage since it is more than a match and it can cut through ice with ease. As long as you remember to start the blender before putting the ice in that is, but everyone knows that right?
MBB518 – the Waring Smoothie Maker
If you are a smoothie lover then this blender is perfect for light or heavy use, and it is strong enough to be used every morning to create a tasty fruit drink or yogurt snack without even breaking a sweat, and it fits right in with on any bar with your iSi Soda Siphon, Nesco FD-75PR, glasses, and so on. Due to the way the blades are attached to the bottom of the glass container, they do not come off even when cleaning. This one piece design is part of the reason why the blender offers so much torque to cut through frozen fruit, but you may wonder just how you should go about cleaning it. Conveniently, the blades do not have to come off to wash the unit, so you can simply run warm water with washing up liquid into the glass and give the blades a quick wipe and then set the glass down to dry – easy! If you are of the “last minute” club then you may find that if you leave the blended foodstuff in the blender for a few days then you may have to soak the glass in warm soapy water for an hour before cleaning, but this is standard fare for all blenders. One last thing to remember: don’t put the glass in the dishwasher, since it will dull the blades over time – like all blenders, it is best to hand wash if possible!
Pros:
Handles frozen fruit without any problems
Great blender that can deal with almost anything
Quieter than a lot of other blenders
Very good quality; great stainless steel base and glass jug combine for an elegant retro look
Cons:
No advanced features for pros such as timers
Not quite as powerful as a $700 commercial blender -make sure you add ice to the blender after the blade gets going, not before
